It’s pronounced SEE-sa.
Now that we have that out of the way — hello! I'm a journalist and editor from Vancouver, Canada.
Presently, I’m the bureau chief of conservation and fellowships at The Narwhal and a contributing writer to The Walrus. I’m also the Asper Visiting Professor in the UBC School of Journalism, Writing and Media. You can find my recent writing in Maclean’s, Chatelaine, The Globe & Mail and many other places. I’m on the board of directors for Upstart & Crow and tâpwêwin media. Previously, I was the co-publisher and editor-in-chief of SAD Mag. For fun, I map change tables.
My feature story The Curious Case of Gina Adams received the Gold Medal for Investigative Journalism and the Silver Medal for Long-Form Feature at the 2023 National Magazine Awards, and was a finalist for the Canadian Association of Journalists awards. It’s available as a limited-edition hardcover from Hingston & Olsen. My June 2023 cover story for Maclean’s, The End of Home Ownership, was the magazine’s most-read story of the year, and was a finalist in Long-Form Feature Writing for the 2024 National Magazine Awards. My work as a columnist for The Walrus received a 2024 National Magazine Award, and has been selected for the 2025 Best Canadian Essays.
I’m a member of the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation in Treaty 6, Saskatchewan, and I live and work on the ancestral, unceded homelands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.
